A select collection of photographs and essays, is the long awaited sequel to On the Vineyard II which was originally published in 1990. Nationally acclaimed photographer and Martha's Vineyard resident, Peter Simon has sensitively combined over 230 original photographs with 39 articles by Island authors, many of them friends, who tell their personal stories of Martha's Vineyard , the magical spot of land just off the coast of Massachusetts. Each of the writers - best selling authors with international reputations, as well as local writers thoroughly engaged in the work-a-day, off-season scene - examines the Vineyard from a personal point of view. Their perspectives combine to form a complex of passions, thoughts and feelings - from the nostalgic glance of summer folk, to the embittered glare of experienced Vineyard watchers who fear exploitation and over development of their cherished Island home. The essays' tones range from amused, fanciful and anecdotal to historical, mystical, and apprehensive.
On the Vineyard III, is a continuing celebration of the Island's unique charm, beauty and allure. This book is dedicated to sharing its bounty, ensuring its preservation and providing the Martha's Vineyard Hospital with twenty percent of the profits.
